  5. CODA helps the community.  Memory boxes are painted by members for Wake Med and Rex.  (See the philanthropy chair for more details.)

  7. CODA members paint everything not fast enough to get away.  Share ideas and build off of the works of others.

  8. Interested in gaining leadership experience while contributing to the art community?  Lots of opportunities to share your talent and further develop your leadership and management style in a supportive environment.

  9. As much as you are going to love being part of this chapter, we are going to love you, too.  We are, above all, friends!

  10. CODA is a member centered organization, we exist to assist YOU in reaching your artistic potential.

Other reasons for joining the Society of Decorative Painters:
Six big issues of The Decorative Painter magazine• Members-only Resource Communications Center purchase option • Industry-wide Business & Teacher Online Resource access • Health insurance purchase option • Credit Card option • SDP Member Scholarship Program • Certification Program • Website and knowledgeable staff to serve you • Teacher Development Program for excellence in teaching • Annual decorative painting Convention with classes, exhibits and trade shows • Validation of your passion

One of our goals is to share decorative painting and since we all know a bit about it already, who better to share with than someone who hasn't yet discovered the fun of painting?  Therefore, CODA is constantly on the lookout for new members.  In order to help us in that effort, members are given CODA business cards (if you haven't received yours yet, please contact Margaret and let her know).  Have you given one to anyone yet?  Please make it a point to give one out this month.

Painters Needed for Memory Boxes!

We are currently in need of decprative artists to paint memory boxes that CODA donates to local hospitals to be given out after a pregnancy loss. Parents really do appreciate the service our members provide to help them cope with their grief. This is a very important, heart wrenching program. Please help!  Dina Jacobs has Memory Boxes available. If you need some let her know and she will be happy to give them to you.

Library

The CODA library has a wealth of books, pamphlets, and other painting instructions.  A complete list of the library is available in the members only section of this site.  Each newsletter highlights a library item.  Below is a sample of the highlights from this year.

Creative Inspirations in Paint by Julie Neilson –Kelly.  This is a book that has it all with acrylic medium.  Beginning with color lessons, brush strokes with blending, and projects aplenty focusing on florals, this book contains projects for various surfaces including terra cotta, wooden boxes, ceramics, glass and other.

Decorative Painting with Gretchen Cagle
was published in 1996.  Gretchen Cagle is one of the industry’s leading artists with over 30 years of tole and decorative painting, producing at least thirteen books and several videos.  This book contains 32 projects which run the gamut from florals such as Roses, Pansies, or Violets to fruits including Apples and Peaches, and country projects that feature Bunnies and Rocking Horses.

With various surfaces featured, it is difficult to choose only one project from this abundance of beauty.  Several of the patterns would be especially suitable if used for our Memory Box program.
